9 Days Congo Nile Trail and Nyungwe Tour

Detailed Itinerary.

Day 1: Arrival – Kigali City Tour.

One of our tour guides will meet you upon your arrival at Rwanda’s Kigali International Airport and drive you to your accommodation. Please receive a briefing about your journey to the “land of a thousand peaks.”

Day 2: Transfer to Rubavu.

After eating breakfast at the hotel, go on a City Tour of Kigali, which includes a visit to the Genocide Memorial, a sombre reminder of the slaughter of innocent people in 1994. Ride across Lake Kivu to Rubavu in the afternoon. Drive to Rubavu city, which is situated on the eastern bank of Lake Kivu, the largest of the lakes that fill the Rwandan valleys, after spending the night at the Soeurs Benedict rides Guesthouse. After arriving in Rubavu City, you proceed to your hotel and start your afternoon city tour.

Day 3: Gisenyi – Rwinyoni.

You will start your day with an early breakfast at our hotel and a pre-departure briefing from your guide. From there, you will begin your first overland trek to the settlement of Rwinyoni, northwest of Lake Kivu. You may witness the splendour of the sun on the lake’s edge from this spot. You will stroll a short distance into Kimbiri village to examine its surroundings after we arrive.

Day 4: Transfer to Kinunu.

You have two hours to walk this morning to the well-known fishing village of Nkora. You can see the neighbourhood from this vantage point, including kids having fun in the lake and fisherman coming in after their nightly fishing expedition. After passing through farms of tea and bananas, we arrive at our accommodation at 1:00 p.m. You will sample your first cup of coffee during our guided tour of the Kinunu washing station following lunch. Spend the night in Kinunu at The Senators Guest House.

Day 5: Kinunu – Congo Nile via Musasa

You will see the famous Kinunu Catholic Church, stroll alongside Lake Kivu for eight hours, engage with the locals, and enjoy the scenery and banana plantations. On the way to the coffee washing station in the village of Bwimana Musasa, stop for a lunch by the lake. A 4×4 will take you to Congo Nile for the night at 17:00.

Day 6: Congo Nile to Rubengera Junction

You’ll have to get up early that day because it will take you at least seven hours to get to the Rubengera junction. From there, you’ll need to follow the way between the community’s farms and ascend the trail to the main road that leads to Rubengera. The best route to get to Kibuye’s city centre is to cross the bitumen Rubengera crossroads. We get to Kibuye by public transport. Four days of climbing and trekking come to an end on this day. Day 7: Transfer to Nyungwe Forest National Park

After breakfast, we’ll take you to Nyungwe National Park to do the canopy walk.

Day 8: Chimpanzee Tracking in Nyungwe – Waterfall Hike.

Early in the morning, you will embark on a tracking adventure with chimpanzees in the bush. We’ll walk to a waterfall after lunch and then head back to your guest house.

Day 9: Return to Kigali – Departure.

After breakfast, make your way back to Kigali, making a stop at the Butare Ethnographic Museum along the way.
