9 Days Best of Uganda Wildlife Safari

Detailed Itinerary.

Day 1: Kampala – Murchison Falls National Park

A Gorilla Adventure Tours tour guide will pick you from your hotel or place of residence in Kampala, brief you on the day’s program after which you will embark on a 6 hour journey to Murchison Falls National Park. Continue through Nakasongola to the Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary. At the sanctuary you receive a briefing from the ranger regarding the rhino project and then proceed to trek the sanctuary. In addition to the rhinos the sanctuary has more wildlife including monkeys, antelopes, hippos and crocodiles. After 1 to 2 hours of rhino tracking and wildlife viewing you continue to Masindi town for lunch at Masindi Hotel or Court View Hotel. After lunch drive out of Masindi town and continue with a visit to the top of the falls. Thereafter proceed to your lodge. Overnight and meals at Paraa Safari Lodge (High End) or Murchison River Lodge (Mid Range) or Heritage Safari Lodge (Budget) Meal Plan (Lunch, Dinner).

Day 2: Morning Game Drive – Afternoon Boat Ride

Have an early morning breakfast at about 6.30am and set out for the Game Drive by 7.00am. This is the ideal timing to catch the nocturnals and hunters before returning to their hideouts as well as the early risers. Murchison Falls National Park is crossed by River Nile dividing it into the South and North Sections. The North section has a higher population of animals hence more preferred for game drives. In case your lodge is on the Southern section you shall drive to the ferry crossing and get to the other side to start the game drive. Animals you will expect to see include; giraffes, elephants, jackals, buffalos, lions, warthogs, Jackson’s Hartebeests, antelops, hyenas, waterbucks, and the much elusive leopards. The game drive lasts about 4 hours after which you will return to the lodge for your lunch and relaxation. Later in the afternoon, you will set out for the boat ride on the Victoria Nile. The boat ride is ideal for close encounter wildlife viewing. Expect to see animals including; buffaloes, elephants, antelopes and a cocktail of birds. The ride takes you to the bottom of the Murchison Falls and you could hike to the top for breathtaking views of these beautiful falls. After this thrilling wildlife boat ride. Day 3: Murchison Falls – Kibale Forest National Park.

You will leave for Kibale Forest National Park, the home of chimpanzees in Uganda. All day drive south via Hoima to Fort Portal through a verdant countryside and past traditional homesteads and farms along Albertine Rift escarpments. Fort Portal rests in the shadow of the fabled Mountains of the Moon. Overnight and meals at Kyaninga Lodge (High End) or Mountains of the Moon (Mid Range) or Chimpanzee Guest House (Budget). Day 4:  Chimpanzee Trekking & Bigodi Walk

Early morning trek for chimpanzees and other primates including; l’ hoestes, Red Colobus, blues, red tailed and grey – cheeked mangabey. The guide will provide detailed explanation, not only on primates, but on all the forest fauna and flora and will ensure that your walk is both informative and enjoyable. This walk is excellent for viewing bird life and seeing primates at close quarters. Kibale is the best reserve in Africa to view chimps, a thick jungle with a towering canopy. After tracking the chimps in the afternoon you will go for a nature walk to the Bigodi swamp- to see unique flora and fauna. Overnight and meals at Kyaninga Lodge (High End) or Mountains of the Moon (Mid Range) or Chimpanzee Guest House (Budget). Meal Plan: (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner).

Day 5: Kibale – Queen Elizabeth National Park

Take a morning walk to the crater lakes and visit the Vanilla farm around Ndali Lodge. Later drive at your convenience to Queen Elizabeth National Park for an afternoon relaxation and sightseeing. Overnight and meals at Mweya Safari Lodge (High End) or Enganzi Lodge (Mid Range) or Simba Safari Camp (Budget). Meal Plan: (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner).

Day 6:  Queen Elizabeth National Park

Early morning game drive in Uganda’s best park, where all big game can been seen in abundance. Queen Elizabeth National Park’s diverse eco-system of grassy plains, tropical forest, rivers, swamps, lakes and volcanic craters is home to an incredible abundance of wildlife. Game drives in this park, with the massive Rwenzoris as a backdrop provides excellent opportunities to see lions, leopards, giant forest hogs, Cape buffaloes, elephants, waterbucks, kobs, topi, bush bucks e.t.c. After lunch proceed to Queen Elizabeth National Park for an afternoon boat cruise along the Kazinga Channel. Overnight and meals at Mweya Safari Lodge (High End) or Enganzi Lodge (Mid Range) or Simba Safari Camp (Budget). Meal Plan: (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner).

Day 7: Kyambura Chimpanzee Tracking – Bwindi

After our breakfast, you will be taken to Kyambura Gorge for Chimpanzee tracking. You will follow the chimpanzees as they look for food and taking good care of their young ones as a family, thereafter drive to Bwindi Forest National Park via Ishasha for the a game drive for the tree climbing lions with Lunch at Ishasha Wildness Camp, Thereafter be transferred to Bwindi. Overnight and dinner at Mahogany Springs/Buhoma Lodge (High End) or Silverback Lodge/Engagi Gorilla Lodge (Mid Range) or Buhoma Community Bandas (Budget). Meal Plan: (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner).

Day 8: Gorilla Tracking Safari in Bwindi Forests National Park

After breakfast, head to the park head quarters for briefing about the mountain gorillas and the park. Enter into the jungle to search for the shy primates in their mist. When meet them it is one hour allowed staying with the primates for the clients to enjoy those playing, take unforgettable photographs. Carry with you the rain gears, walkable shoes, hut, insect repellent, sun screens, packed lunch and bottled mineral water. Spend the evening visiting the local communities around the park-like the local breweries, traditional healers, Batwa cultural performances, local schools and art and craft shops. Overnight and dinner at Mahogany Springs/Buhoma Lodge (High End) or Silverback Lodge/Engagi Gorilla Lodge (Mid Range) or Buhoma Community Bandas (Budget). Meal Plan: (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner).

Day 9: Bwindi Forests – Kampala/Entebbe

After breakfast, embark the safari vehicle and drive back to Kampala, lunch en-route. Stop at the equator again to take some photos and get some souvenirs to take back home with you. Proceed to the airport for your return flight back home.
