7 Days Congo Gorilla Trekking Safari

Day 1: Transfer to Bukavu – Kahuzibeiga National Park

After your breakfast, a Gorilla Adventure Tours guide will pick you and transfer you to Congo in Bukavu. You will visit Butare Museum, Nyanza Kings Palace and time allowing visit Murambi Genocide Memorial after lunch and proceed your journey passing through Nyungwe forest with high chances to spot monkeys long the way.

Day 2: Lowland Gorilla Tracking – Community Visit

Your guide will drive you to Kahuzi Biega National Park office where your gorilla trekking experience begins. This is a gathering point for the briefing about the dos and Don’ts of lowland gorilla trekking. Tracking these gorillas here is on flat forested ground so not as strenuous as when trekking mountain gorillas. Once you find them, you will be allowed a period of one hour with them taking pictures and observing their behaviors. In the afternoon, you will visit the nearby community to interact with locals.

Day 3: Transfer to Kibuye

In the morning after your breakfast, you will cross via Cyangugu border post, proceed to Kibuye in Rwanda passing through different villages enjoying beautiful scenic Lake Kivu shores. You will have lunch on arrival thereafter go for a boat ride on Lake Kivu to explore the islands return for evening relaxation at your hotel dinner and overnight stay.

Day 4: Transfer to Goma, DRC

After your morning relaxed breakfast, your guide will take you to another scenic drive along the shores of Lake Kivu, to Gisenyi then crossover to Goma in Congo where you will spend your night at Mikeno Lodge or Bukima Tented Camp or Kibumba Tented Camp prior your Mountain gorilla tracking next day.

Day 5: Gorilla Trekking in Virunga National Park.

In the morning, you will have your breakfast thereafter report to Virunga National Park headquarters for briefing about mountain gorillas. You will the set off to track the famous mountain gorillas together with your armed ranger guide who will search and interpret to you the gorilla behaviors.

The gorilla tracking time will depend on the movement of the entire team and the location of the gorillas themselves. Later in the evening you can visit nearby community to meet and interact with local people. Return to the lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 6: Nyiragongo Volcano Hike

You will have breakfast early morning, then you guide will take you to the briefing at the hiking departure point at Kibati patrol post which is approximately 30 minutes’ drive from Goma and less than an hour from Mikeno lodge. The hiking experience usually starts at 10:00AM and will take approximately 4-6 hours depending on the speed and strength of the participants in order to reach the summit of the volcano. You will then enjoy the views of the summit, have dinner and stay overnight at the Summit shelter Camp.

Day 7: Return to Kigali.

In the morning you will descend back from the Volcano and continue to the border to crossover again to Rwanda. You will then proceed to Kigali where you will be dropped at the Airport for your departure flight out.
