Detailed itinerary

Day 1: Arrival Kigali Airport

On arrival at Kigali International Airport, you will be received by a Gorilla Adventure Tours driver / tour guide who will transfer you to the hotel for a relaxation and overnight prior to the countryside travel for our adventure activities. Get the briefing of the entire 6 days safari and the program for the next day including the pick up time.

Day 2: Transfer to Akagera National Park

The safari guide picks you up after your breakfast to head to Akagera National Park. We get lunch en route and proceed to the park. When we arrive at the park, we go for a game drive along the Lake Circuit to try our luck of spotting animals like zebras, buffaloes, giraffes and hippos among others.

Drive to the lodge, check in for dinner and the overnight stay.

Day 3: Morning Game Drive – Afternoon Boat Cruise

We raise up early and have breakfast then go for a game drive out in the plains in search of the grazers and some predators. The game drive starts at around 6:30am, to increase our chances of sighting hunters including lions and the rest of the Big 5; elephants, buffaloes and if lucky, a leopard can be spotted. The drive takes us around the northern sector to Mutumba hill which offers breathtaking views of the landscape. Other animals seen in the park include waterbucks, topis, elands, oribis, antelopes, duikers and many others.

Drive back to the lodge for a relaxation and go for a boat cruise after enjoying our yummy lunch.Going for the afternoon boat cruise is one of best ways to watch large numbers of animals at the shores of the lake. Birds, hippos and crocodiles are commonly seen during the boat ride.

We get back to the lodge for dinner and later on rest.

Day 4: Transfer to Volcanoes National Park

After the delightful moments in Akagera, we leave the park after breakfast for Volcanoes national park in the north of Rwanda. We drive smoothly towards the north west expecting to arrive at the park early evening. It is a relaxed drive cheered up with stunning views of the endless rolling hills of Rwanda. when we arrive in Musanze district at the park, we check in at the booked lodge for dinner, prepare for gorilla trekking and rest.

Day 5: Gorilla Trekking – Visit the Iby’iwachu Cultural Village

We wake up early, probably by 6:00am and grab breakfast. With packed lunch and enough drinking water, we drive to the park headquarters for briefing and allocation of the group to trek with. The trek starts at 8:00am with an armed ranger guide through the forest to areas where the mountain gorillas are expected to be found. Trekking duration is not clearly defined but rather is determined by how far these apes will have moved.

When we come across the group of gorillas, we are given an hour to stay with them, see how they play, observe and learn about them before returning to the headquarters. The driver guide transfers us to the lodge after the trek and later on in the evening, he takes us to the nearby cultural village for a thrilling encounter with the locals. As they sing and dance, you can join them and try out your dance moves following the sounds of their local instruments. As the day gets to dusk, we return to the lodge for dinner and the overnight.

Day 6: Departure for Kigali

Following breakfast at our overnight lodge, we check out and depart for Kigali for a city tour. The city tour includes a visit to Kigali Genocide memorial Centre and other places of interest like art and craft markets that display a variety of items good for souvenirs. Drop off at agreed up on location in Kigali.
