12 Days Rwanda Uganda Combined Tour

Detailed Itinerary.

Day 1: Kampala – Murchison Falls National Park

Pick up from your hotel or place of residence is at 7.00am. Your driver shall brief you on the day’s program after which you embark on the 6 hours journey to Murchison Falls National Park. Continue through Nakasongola to the Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary. At the sanctuary you receive a briefing from the ranger regarding the rhino project and then proceed to trek the sanctuary. In addition to the rhinos the sanctuary has more wildlife including monkeys, antelopes, hippos and crocodiles. After 1 to 2 hours of rhino tracking and wildlife viewing you continue to Masindi town for lunch at Masindi Hotel or Court View Hotel. After lunch drive out of Masindi town and continue with a visit to the top of the falls. Thereafter proceed to your lodge. Overnight and meals at Paraa Safari Lodge (High End) or Murchison River Lodge (Mid Range) or Heritage Safari Lodge (Budget). Meal Plan: (Breakfast, Lunch).

Day 2: Morning Game Drive – Afternoon Boat Ride

Have early morning breakfast at about 6.30 and set out for the game drive by 7.00am. This is the ideal timing to catch the nocturnal and hunters before returning to their hideouts as well as the early risers. Murchison Falls National Park is crossed by River Nile dividing it into the South and North Sections. The North section has a higher population of animals hence more preferred for game drives. In case your lodge is on the Southern section you shall drive to the ferry crossing and get to the other side to start the game drive.

Traverse the major game trails especially around the Paraa area and view lots of wildlife including among others giraffes, elephants, jackals, buffalos, lions, warthogs, Jackson’s Hartebeests, antelops, hyenas, waterbucks, and the much elusive leopards. The game drive lasts about 4 hours after which you return to the lodge for your lunch and relaxation. Later at about 2.30pm you set out for the boat ride on Victoria Nile.

River Nile is habitat for several water animals including lots of hippos and crocodile. Several animals come to the Nile to drink water, cool off and refresh and others to eat fresh grass along the banks. The boat ride is ideal for close encounter wildlife viewing. Expect to sight lot of buffalos, elephants, antelopes and a cocktail of birds. The ride takes you to the bottom of the Murchison Falls and you could hike to the top for breathtaking views of these beautiful falls. After this thrilling wildlife boat ride. Day 3: Transfer to Kibale Forest National Park.

All day drive south via Hoima to Fort Portal through verdant countryside and past traditional homesteads and farms along Albertine Rift escarpments. Fort-Portal rests in the shadow of the fabled Mountains of the Moon. Overnight and meals at Kyaninga Lodge (High End) or Mountains of the Moon (Mid Range) or Chimpanzee Guest House (Budget). Meal Plan: (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner).

Day 4:  Kibale Chimpanzee Trekking

Early morning trek for chimpanzees and other primate species including l’ hoestes, Red Colobus, blues, red tailed and grey – cheeked mangabey. The guide will provide detailed explanations, not only on primates, but on all the forest fauna and flora and will ensure that your walk is both informative and enjoyable. This walk is excellent for viewing bird life and seeing primates at close quarters. Kibale is the best reserve in Africa to view chimps, a thick jungle with a towering canopy. After tracking the chimps in the afternoon you will go for a nature walk to the Bigodi swamp- to see unique flora and fauna.Overnight and meals at Kyaninga Lodge (High End) or Mountains of the Moon (Mid Range) or Chimpanzee Guest House (Budget). Day 5: Transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park

Morning take a walk to the crater lakes and a visit to the Vanilla farm around Ndali Lodge. Later drive at your convenience proceed to Queen Elizabeth National Park for an afternoon relaxation and sightseeing. Overnight and meals at Mweya Safari Lodge (High End) or Enganzi Safari Lodge (Mid Range) or Simba Safari Camp (Budget). Meal Plan: (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner).

Day 6:  Morning Game Drive – Afternoon Boat Cruise.

Early morning game drive in Uganda’s best park, where all big game can been seen in abundance. Queen Elizabeth National Park’s diverse eco-system of grassy plains, tropical forest, rivers, swamps, lakes and volcanic craters is home to an incredible abundance of wildlife. Game drives in this park, with the massive Rwenzoris as a backdrop provides excellent opportunities to see lion, leopard, giant forest hog, Cape buffalo, elephants, defassa waterbuck, Uganda Kob, Topi and bush buck. After lunch proceed to Queen Elizabeth National Park for an afternoon boat cruise along the Kazinga Chanel. Overnight and meals at Mweya Safari Lodge (High End) or Enganzi Safari Lodge (Mid Range) or Simba Safari Camp (Budget). Meal Plan: (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner).

Day 7: Kyambura Chimpanzee Tracking – Transfer to Bwindi Forest.

After our breakfast, we head to Kyambura Gorge for Chimpanzee tracking, you will follow the chimpanzees as they look out for food and taking good care of their young ones as a family, thereafter dive to Bwindi Forest National Park via Ishasha for the a game drive for the tree climbing lions with Lunch at Ishasha Wildness Camp, Thereafter be transferred to Bwindi. Overnight and dinner at Mahogany Springs/Buhoma Lodge (High End) or Silverback Lodge/Engagi Gorilla Lodge (Mid Range) or Buhoma Community Bandas (Budget). Meal Plan: (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner).

Day 8: Gorilla Tracking  in Bwindi Forest National Park.

After breakfast, head to the park head quarters for briefing about the mountain gorillas and the park. Enter into the jungle to search for the shy primates in their mist. When meet them it is one hour allowed staying with the primates for the clients to enjoy those playing, take unforgettable photographs. Carry with you the rain gears, walkable shoes, hut, insect repellent, sun screens, packed lunch and bottled mineral water. Spend the evening visiting the local communities around the park-like the typical Bakiga homes, local breweries, traditional healers, Batwa cultural performances, local schools and art and craft shops. Overnight and dinner at Mahogany Springs/Buhoma Lodge (High End) or Silverback Lodge/Engagi Gorilla Lodge (Mid Range) or Buhoma Community Bandas (Budget). Meal Plan: (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner).

Day 9: Transfer to Volcanoes National Park in Rwanda.

Transfer to Kinigi at the foothills of the Volcanoes from Uganda in to Rwanda Ruhengere with lunch enroute. Accommodation and meals at Virunga Lodge (High End)/ Da Vinci Lodge (Mid Range) Or Muhabura Guest House (Budget). Meal Plan: (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner).

Day 10: Gorilla Trekking in Rwanda.

After breakfast, you will depart for the headquarters of the Park where your driver-guide will accomplish the necessary formalities for you. You will meet your ranger guide(s) for a briefing about the greatest animal experience ever! After assigning your gorilla group you will then enter the jungle for your   gorilla trekking tour in Rwanda. Afternoon ascend for a community walk to the Banyarwanda people and enjoy their different performances and also explore more about their unique culture. Day 11: Golden Monkey Trekking – Transfer to Kigali

After breakfast, you will report to the headquarters for a visit of the golden monkeys (cercopithecus mitis kandti). A visit to the golden monkeys is very different experience from gorilla-viewing, the monkeys react and interact differently; they will keep on playing hide-and-seek much to the delight of the visitors.  transfer to Kigali. On your way to Kigali, several stops will be made to admire the scenery. Day 12: Kigali – Out

Pick up at your hotel, depending on your departure time and if you missed the opportunity the first day, you will have your Kigali city trip including the Genocide Memorial centre at Gisozi. Transfer to the Airport for your departure.
